The Sacred Wood of Bomarzo is a fascinating and mysterious place, where you can admire numerous stone sculptures that represent animals, monsters and deities of mythology scattered in a surreal landscape. The Park was commissioned by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini in the 14th century as a tribute to his beloved wife Giulia Farnese and the project is attributed to the architect and antiquarian Pirro Ligorio who created a set of fantastic and symbolic works, inspired by the Renaissance literature and alchemy. Among the attractions our favorites are the Dragon, the Leaning House, the Temple and the sculptures of Neptune, Glauco and Ceres, which inspired the colorful illustrations of the Burraco card deck “l’architettura ti fa il mazzo”.
